Nail Polish PSA: Bye-Bye Foil

I previously did a post about the foil method, which is used to remove stubborn glitter manicures or dark vampy colors, without making a mess of your hands. Well,  today I have an amendment to that previous post, LOL!

Good bye foil..... and hello rubber tips!

I bought these at my local nail supply store for $2 bucks..yep, best $2 I ever spent.   The concept is the same as using foil to remove the polish.

First you get your favorite cotton balls, loose cotton, or cotton pads.

I prefer using cotton pads, but I have used cotton balls ripped up too.  Then I cut the pad into 4 pieces. (I cut a bunch ahead of time and store them in a small container.)

Take one piece per nail, and apply remover or pure acetone...

Apply the pad to the nail. making sure it is covered...

Then instead of wrapping foil  around your finger, you slip one of the rubber fingers on.  The bag I purchased was all size 12's (I didn't even know they came in sizes) , which fit my fingers perfectly, my pinkie (not really) and my thumb (barely), LOL :)

I like to make sure the little holes in the finger are not over the cotton, since I do not want the remover to evaporate faster :) That's it, wait the usual time, just a couple minutes, and the polish comes off, just as it did with the foil.

So no more tearing foil pieces, no more cutting new pieces of foil...no more foil period!

Just easy, reusable rubber tips :) Check out your local nail supply store or office supply store for rubber tips

Nail Polish PSA: Q-tips® Precision Tips®

Okay today I have a little PSA for all my nail lovers.  Those of us who paint our own nails at home know how annoying clean up can be. Well Q-Tip has heard our cries of frustration, and altered their Q-Tip so that clean-up is WAY easier.

"They are designed with pointed tips at both ends, making them perfect for precise application for a long list of tasks..."

So, I  used them last week to test them out on a very tough manicure...

I removed the manicure using the usual cotton balls, did my usual "cut and filing" and then used the Q-Tips to clean the sides...

Super Clean! It was super easy too. I normally use an eyeliner brush  and acetone to remove polish in the nail crevices, but these Q-Tips are now my new best friend and a great back up for my eyeliner brush.

Great for travel!

My niece, who uses Q-Tips to clean up all her manicures, saw these on my kitchen counter, and immediately begged for some (No worries I gave in, LOL).

Q-Tip you've got a good thing going here :)

Lastly, we all know Q-tips® cotton swabs can do a lot of good at home. Now, as part of the Q-tips® for Good program, they can be used to do a world of good across the country and, even, abroad. The Q-tips® brand is donating 1 Million Q-tips® cotton swabs to three great organizations that can use them daily – Operation Gratitude for care packages to service men and women, Ronald McDonald House® New York for arts & crafts and everyday use and Glamour Gals for intergenerational manicures & makeovers. Nail Polish PSA: Bad Helmer Drawer Liners

Today I'm doing a Public Service Announcement, PSA!  On one of my facebook nail group pages, we were discussing drawer liners for the IKEA Helmer. Helmer is the drawer system used by many nail polish lovers to store their polish bottles.

I, like most wanted to line my drawers immediately once I bought the Helmer, and I did. I went to Target and chose these...

Up close...

Here is a post I did on my drawers back in 2010, HERE.   See how nice the black liners are...yeah...well last year around X-mas, 2011, I noticed something odd was happening to my bottles...THIS....

and THIS...

Looking at this picture, makes me SCREAM! The Zoya bottles were getting "grease spots" on them, and some labels were falling off...OH NO!!!! and my beloved OPI's...well they were intact but they were losing their codes...OH HELL NO!!!!

Here is a comparison of my damaged bottle and a good bottle....

Damaged bottle on the left, good bottle on the right! Luckily this is the only bottle that is severely damaged, most of the other 15 or so OPI bottles, that were damaged are just partially "smudged". :(:(

So my suggestion is, if you have these liners, stop using them...and if you do not have them. Do not buy this brand or kind. LOL!!!

Also if you know of any other liners I can use, please email me  (My info is on the "Contact" page up top) and let me know. Thanks :)
