How do you keep your hands soft?

I love scrubs, creams oils, lotions..all of it, and I have some of everything stashed at home, by the bed, by the couch, in my office, even in the car.

So when I saw an article in Fitness magazine about making your own hand scrub, I thought, "I wonder if anyone else has tried this or would make this besides me?"

Here it is:

1/2 cup dry oatmeal
1/4 cup water
Rub together and scrub your hands and palms, focusing on the cuticles and knuckles. Then rinse and apply a heavy lotion or hand cream.

Also I have a co-worker who uses the little packets of sugar and scrubs her hands under water in the kitchen sink at work....ingenious!

I personally love using sugar and baby oil in the shower if I need a quick scrub or used coffee grounds and olive oil.....awesome body scrub, great for the skin, hell on the shower (that stuff gets everywhere) LOL!

So I ask "What kind of homemade scrub or cream have you created and tried?"

I promise I'll post some pretty nails tomorrow :)

  1. You know I'm not one to make homemade stuff my mind doesn't think what can I put together to get this (which is also why I dont franken lol) but I am very curious to see what your other readers have to say so maybe I can try some of these without buying them from Bath adn Body Works :)

  2. I haven't tried anything homemade but I like to use exfoliate scrubs the same ones I use for my face.

I posted a homemade oatmeal scrub for facials on my makeup blog.

I've heard some use plain sugar to scrub, wash hands then lotion makes them really soft :)

Hey I see you like fitness. I do too. I love the oxygen magazine :)

    Great post!

  3. @Jess- I don't really franken either, but I will whip up a scrub in a minute..FYI Salt scrubs are not good as all over body scrubs..it stings if you have a cut or if you just shaved your legs:)!

@rmcandlelight- I've never read Oxygen, maybe I'll grab a copy at lunch, Thanks :)

  4. I've been looking at recipes to make my own scrub, but I use the heck out of some sugar scrubs that I pick up through indie soap companies. Theirs are usually far superior to the mainstream ones, both in formula and scent! SO moisturizing!

  5. Olive oil with salt or sugar really works!

  6. I've used those little packs of sugar before too. The natural sugar in the brown packet. However, most of the time, I just use the same scrub I have for my face; St. Ives Microdermabrasion.

  7. i use sugar and lemon! it makes my skin suppper soft! and it lightens my hyperpigmentation spots.. it's sort of like a mild peel. a 'natural peel' don't do it all the time though.. and make sure u are not sensitive to the acid in the lemons!

  8. I like homemade things, but often recipes need some funky stuff that I never have in the house.
But I do use baby oil with salt or sugar for my legs :)

  9. I actually make my own sugar scrub...I have so much sugar around the house because I love to bake. I snag 1/3 cup sugar, mix it with grapeseed oil until it all sticks together and resembles the texture of wet sand. I sometimes throw in splashes of essence oils to make it all smell lovely.

I place the mixture in a container (like a Glad container you buy to store food in your fridge) and use it whenever I want.

I also buy grapeseed oil because it's cheaper than olive oil, has little to no smell and can be found in huge bottles for a good price at Whole Foods.
