Acid Wash Manicure

Happy Tuesday!

Today I'd like to share a new technique called "Acid Washing", it's very cool. What you do is layer different colors on top of one another, and then using a q-tip or bristled brush dipped in acetone, slowly wipe off the layers.

You keep wiping until you reach the desired look. :) As you can see, I "wiped" a little too hard on one of the nails, and you can see my nail bed, LOL...I guess I was a bit eager :)

Here are the colors I used, 1 coat each.

OPI "Alpine Snow-Matte", China Glaze "Sweet Hook", Zoya "Demi", and Sally Hansen "Thinking of Blue".

This technique has been known for quite sometime. Here are 2 blogs that have great acid wash manicures, Just Tis Ems and Smashly Sparkles.

I think it looks more like "distressed furniture" than "acid wash", but no matter, it's pretty cool!  After, you've reached the desired "distressed" look, you top it with top coat, and you are all done.  This technique is very easy, and personally I prefer wiping off the manicure with a brush rather than a q-tip, so as to avoid cotton hairs remaining on your manicure.

Keep It Sweet!

I love the acid wash technique.. you can do so much with it! I did a spin on it recently trying to recreate OPI Spotted. Very cool :)
