My poor Mommy...

No, no, no worries she's healthy and happy, but my poor mother buys nail polish and invariably...EVERY TIME she buys a new polish, its a dupe (or kissin cousin) of a color she already has.

Usually she is with me when she gets a nail polish (I think she gets 'high off of the fumes' from my own obsession) and starts to look at "new" colors, then I go over and look in her basket..and WHAM..she has a basketful of dupes....LOL...then we proceed to put them all back, poor Mommy:)

So what happens when she buys polish without me...WHAM a dupe or a flashier version of a color she already has (she doesn't like too much "glitz" in her polish)...LOL!

So I give you her new purchase, Essie "Buy me a cameo", and her old polish OPI "Queen of d'Nile" BLACK LABEL.

Yeah, Essie is a flashier younger brother to the OPI, and my poor mother had no idea until she showed me.  So what does any good daughter do...immediately swatch them both of course :) LOL!

Here is the Essie, a bit streaky but very pretty.  2 coats and it was perfect.  This shade is "a bit" boring for me, but I still think its pretty, sort of a champagne shimmer with a slight pink twist.

So here is the Essie  (2 coats) and the OPI (3 coats) is on the thumb.  The OPI is far more pretty in my opinion, understated elegance, just enough shimmer, but not too much, and its a black label to boot...Woo Hoo!

Well my mom gave me the Essie and she kept the OPI. Hilarious! I would have rather had the OPI...I need help!

P.S.....not a day later she goes out and gets an OPI "Chocolate Shakespeare" (by herself), and brings it home, and GUESS WHAT?.....it is the flashier cousin of an ULTA color she already has....SMH!!!!

Yay!! Mommy has an opi black label. She knows the value of a black label that's why she gave you the essie. lol!! :D It's a beautiful thing to shop with mommies. Oh, how I miss my mommy dearly :(

Great post! (hand me a tissue, sniff sniff)

Hahah that is so funny! I guess she is attracted to the same shades/tones. As for myself I keep buying greens/blues that are very very similar!

Too funny!! Maybe she should use up the entire bottle of a color before going shopping? :D

Sounds like she knows what she likes and sticks with it. :)

Yes, she knows the value of a BLACK LABEL..NOW, since my obsession has taken "full-flight" and I told her how hard it is to find them.

I also got her to use Seche Vite and she is still amazed at how quickly it dries and how smooth and glossy it is...Hilarious!

Moms..gotta love'em!

I do the same too. I currently have 7 similar polishes in different brands that I'll post about. I console myself by saying at least I'm consistent with the colors and shades I like!

LOL, my mom does the same thing! Every polish she owns is a pinky mauve shimmer, similar to Essie Curve Ball. Every freaking one!

@ Danica-

That's a GREAT question, I'm not sure the exact reason why "Black Labels" are valuable, I always associated "Black Lables" with those colors that they don't make anymore...hence the value.

It is true that the they have a different brush and the formula is different, but the "Valuable Black Labels", to me, are the ones that OPI stopped making.

Great question :)

What is it with mommies? Mine does the same thing! Of course, that could be because she refuses to veer away from old-lady mauves. Love ya, Mom!

Off question but does your Mom still have Queen of D'Nile?
