Zoya Chopping Block: Part 4

Hello my lil' gumdrops..Happy Friday!

Today is the 4th part of my 5 part series, re-swatching some old dusty's to see which ones will get sent off the the Zoya gods for an exchange. Bring on the defendants.

Defendant #7 and Defendant #8, from Lancome's Vernis Magnetic line "Miracle, and Dashing Divas "Liya's Lazy Lilac".

First up is the Diva...are we really surprised...such a diva!

Even though it looks thin, it applies nicely, this is 3 coats, but if I was being careful I could have done it with 2. This is a rich purple/pink creme. Really nice, why did I have this at the bottom of my stash bin?? I took a trip to NYC over 6 years ago (probably longer) , around the time that the Dashing Diva first opened, and had a pedicure done there.

Of course I didn't leave empty handed. I bought this polish and some nail decals (purple Gerber Daisies). After that, I used the polish once but really didn't like it...but now.....hhmmm....the jury is out on this one.

Next up defendant #8

"Miracle"

Well this one is pretty, it's a nice pink with silver shimmer, 3 coats. I don't know? It's not that I don't like the color, but I can live without it? Make sense?

It was a gift from a friend, so it does have sentimental value, but that was like 8 years ago...so the sentiment is dead and gone....right? UGGHH this one is hard...oh well the jury has finally come to a decision....

The Verdict..."Miracle" is guilty of making me yawn..." Liya's Lazy Lilac" can stay...I have a soft spot for cremes right now :)

Zoya Chopping Block: Part 3

Hello Pixy Stixs

Here we are again to review two more defendants in my "Zoya Chopping Block" swatch review.

I present Defendants #5 and #6, Borghese "Solaro Sunshine" and L'Oreal Jet Set Shine "Top 10 Tint".

"Solaro Sunshine"

Okay pixies what do you think? Solaro Sunshine is a lovely orange frost shimmer, I picked it up for $2 at Walgreens...yeah you read it right, 2 bucks!

Well let's first address the fact that this is 3 coats. I have a big rule about polishes, if I have to add more than 3 coats, its not gonna be for me. Well this passed that rule, but it was very streaky. Look at all those shimmer streaks...screaming like an airport runway lit up at midnight!

I love shimmer polish, but when the streaks from a shimmer polish stay on the nail after every brush stroke, kinda like the marks in the carpet left after you vacuum, It's not good.

Marks left behind when vacuuming ...GOOD, marks left behind "in nail polish"...BAD!

"Top 10 Tint"

This is a really pretty pink golden shimmer, that I picked up at the Dollar Tree for $1...fancy that..HA!

Okay, is it just me, or does this one remind you of Zoya's "Happi"...I don't have "Happi", and in fact that is one of the polishes I want to get from the exchange. Why? because it reminds me of pink grapefruits!

Now its time to address another obsession I have...GRAPEFRUIT...I love it, the taste the smell and any polish that reminds me of grapefruit or pink grapefruit, I'm all in!!!

Plus even though this was labeled as a "Tint", meaning sheer or just a top coat over another polish, it was nearly opaque in 2 coats ( I should have done 3) , You can't beat that with a pixy stix!

My verdict,..."Solaro Sunshine" is GUILTY, but "Top 10 Tint" is acquitted of all charges...it was a set-up I tell ya...LOL....."Top 10 Tint" can stay!!

AAARRGGHH!

Every post I have seen today has the new Sally Hansen "Hidden Treasure"...what is wrong with the Walgreen's and Rite Aid in my area? Why are they always so late in getting certain collection in their stores?

Is anyone as frustrated as me about not seeing certain polish collections or seasonal products pop up at your local drugstore or Sally's until months after the release dates?

I know that "brick and mortar" stores are trying to keep their customers, and are losing a lot of them due to Internet businesses, but if they can not keep up with current product, and seasonal promotions, then they force their consumers to go online for their purchases...am I right?

Let me know what popular polish, you can't find?

Zoya Chopping Block: Part 2

Hello Sweettarts

Today is Part 2 of my executions, and we have 2 more defendants

Defendant #3 and #4 are from E.L.F.'s line of polishes "Champagne" and "Dark Navy".

"Champagne"

I bought this color, because I was in search of "my prefect nude" for any women of color this is a very difficult task, let me tell you. In the bottle the polish had a more neutral tone, with a little silver shimmer, on my nail....it was PINK.

Now here is a little tidbit about me, I do have pink polishes in polish my collection, but whenever I try them on, I never like them on me. Now I'm not talking about hot pink or fuchsia, but light pinks, barbie pinks, pepto pinks :)

This may stem from me having a "barbie pink" room for the majority of my toddler youth, but before you shed a tear for me, let me tell you that it was ME who requested the color...so I got what I asked for...boy has that come back to bite me in the sweet spot !! :)

Back to nudes.....I have taken on a lifetime search for "my perfect nude" and "my decent pink"....These lifetime searches keep my obsession with polish alive and well...like I need any reason to love polish!!

Back to "Champagne"...this was two coats, nice formula, a bit streaky but no "real" complaints...the color just makes me shrug my shoulders...so not really gonna miss this one. Next...

"Dark Navy"

Yeah, you've guessed by now with all the lovely pics (ignore the poor paint job) of this beauty, that I HAVE to keep it. This is 2 coats, but let me tell you it was opaque and damn near perfect in one coat. Which totally surprised me!

It's BLUE...so you know I already have a weakness for it...but when I took this baby outside...I said to my self..."oh no, I gotta keep it"...now truth be told, I have A LOT of blue polishes, and even more dark blue, but like a mother defending her 8 children, they are all so different, I love them all. LOL!

Verdict for these two E.L.F. polishes...

BOTH Guilty...... but "Dark Navy" gets an early presidential pardon for being BLUE!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...HA :P

What color of nail polish do you obsess over?

Zoya Skittles

When Zoya had the "Green Friday" deal to celebrate the biggest shopping day of the year, I partook of the their offer and snagged 6 free GREEN polishes.
Of course I put 5 of them on my nails to create a green skittle manicure.

(thumb to pinky) Envy, Suvi, Irene, Midori and Tangy. (3 coats each, SV top coat)

Now let me tell you about a HORRIBLE new candy I just tried...you all know Skittles right, catch a rainbow..blah, blah., blah. I like this candy, and it allows me to indulge in my favorite (semi- OCD) habit of eating my candy in rainbow order.

(This all stems from years of loving Unicorns and Lisa Frank stickers!!)

Well skittles has a new flavor collection out in a blue bag. Its called "Fizzl'd Fruits", and they are so gross!

They fizz in your mouth, no, no, not like "young/hip" pop rocks, more like "old/indigestion" Alka-Seltzer...UUGGHH!

So I ask what made Skittles put out a product that is literally dusted with Alka-seltzer dust? I mean..really?

I tried each flavor and once the fizzle had fizzled out the skittle part was fine, but the foam action in my mouth was unpleasant. Maybe if the foam had a flavor...maybe?The fizzle was more along the lines of baking soda...just writing this makes me sick.

Needless to say once I gagged a couple down, I shared the pain with my co-workers, and their reactions were the same...GROSS!

So here's my tip for the day, RUN FROM this abomination of a candy, but RUN TO ZOYA's site and get yourself enough polish to make a skittle manicure of your own...HA!...Zoya need's to pay me for this one...HA!

Keep it sweet ladies!

Zoya Chopping Block: Part 1

Hello Kit-Kats,

This will be a 5 part post where I swatch the polishes I plan to trade to Zoya in the Zoya Nail Polish Exchange. These swatches are the polishes last chance to WOW me (like they did in the store), before I decide to trade them in for something more FABULOUS!

Let the executions begin * insert evil scientist laugh*

Defendants #1 and #2, from Maybelline's Ultimate Wear Collection, "Plum to Pink" and "Rose to Brassy"

Yeah, the names sounds great, visions of lovely duo chrome dancing in my head....then BAM!

"Plum to Pink"

"Plum to Pink"....Pretty right...shimmer is really nice, definitely see the two different colors, right....yeah I know, unfortunately my camera is having a secret love affair with these polishes because it does NOT, I repeat, does NOT look like this to the human eye. I'm not even gonna mention how streaky and sticky this polish was. OYE!

The drying time was extra long as well. This is two coats with no top coat (why add a top coat?..It's a swatch...LOL) Moving on....

"Rose to Brassy"

"Rose to Brassy"

Same application, Same formula, same problems. I'm not denying the duo chrome capabilities of these polishes, what I'm stating is the fact that these polishes are only great in pics. and not in person.

Now when Cosmopolitan calls me because they need me for a cover shoot, because Heidi Klum isn't available...then these are the polishes for me, but since that day will never come...my verdict is...

GUILTY of tricking me to buy it...I think I'll replace theses two with two colors from the Reverie line...oh yeah!

What do you think?

Sally's Haul

Okay, here is my newest Sally's Haul, something old (colors that we've all seen), something new (everything is new to me...HA!) and something blue (I am a bona fide blue whore, so every haul has something blue)....oh I think I'm shedding a tear...HA!

Finger Paints:
Floatin' on the cloud
Add & Abstract
Blissfully Blue

These are 3 of the 6 colors in the Heavenly Miracles Collection for Spring 2010. The other 3 colors looked very close to colors I already had, I'm most excited about Blissfully Blue, so creamy and pretty!

China Glaze "Watermelon Rind"...so pretty in the sunlight, simply gorgeous!
China Glaze "Frostbite" ...its blue..need I say more?

Orly "Basket Case"...saw this one on NY Nail Diva's page and loved it!
China Glaze "Strawberry Fields"...anyone who has this color, knows about the gorgeous golden shimmer...so pretty, this may be my manicure for Monday!

That's my haul, so get up and go to Sally's this month while the "Buy 2 get 1 free sale" is still on.

I'll post pics as the week goes on :)

Happy Saturday and don't forget keep it sweet!
